On many of our collar models, you'll notice the italics stating "If no flag is added - we will not add loop fastener to your collar" below the drop-down menu for selecting a flag patch. We get a lot of questions about whether a d-ring will be added to a collar if a flag is not selected. To clear the air - whether you add a flag patch or not, there will always be a d-ring (v-ring for 2” models) on the collar for you to attach a leash and/or tags to. All of our collars will come a d-ring or v-ring no matter what.
The last thing we want to do is confuse our customers. We try to be as clear and concise as possible in our product descriptions/pages. However, in this unique situation, we legally cannot use the word that most people associate "loop fastener" with.
Loop fastener is the soft type of Velcro® that attaches to “hook” (or scratchy Velcro®, which is on the back of our patches). Although we do use actual Velcro® brand products for a good portion of our products, some of the hook & loop that we use is not Velcro® brand. That being said, we are technically not allowed to state "Velcro®" in our product descriptions/pages. This helps the word not to become a generic term, and it remains a trademarked brand.
We know it can be confusing, and that's why we wanted to take the time to describe it in detail for you here. Similar to Kleenex with facial tissue, Q-tips with cotton swabs, or Popsicle for frozen treats - Velcro has become the name people associate with hook and loop fastener. Fun fact - this is an example of a proprietary eponym - when a brand name becomes synonymous with a product category, in which people use that particular brand name to describe a product, even when in reference to other brands that make the same product.
